Pyaaj Paratha | Onion Paratha

Pyaaj Paratha (प्याज का परांठा) is a delicious and tasty paratha variety which is prepared by stuffing chopped onion and spices. This onion stuffed paratha with homemade curd is perfect for everyday or weekend breakfast. There are so many different type of parathas like mooli paratha, gobhi paratha. The best part is that every paratha has its own distinct taste.

This is a simple and quick paratha recipe made with everyday ingredients. If you don’t have any other suitable veggies in your kitchen, onion paratha is the best option. Onions are always there in everyone’s kitchen. This paratha is usually made in 2 ways. Either you can stuff finely chopped onion or you can saute onion before stuffing to remove moisture as onion releases its juice when it comes to contact with salt.  Pyaaz Paratha is especially good for people who have diabetes and cannot eat aloo ka partha

You can serve this for breakfast or lunch. This stuffed paratha goes well with any pickle and a bowl of curd or raita.

Ingredients:

For Dough -

2 cups atta (Whole wheat flour)
¼ tsp salt
Water as required

For Stuffing -

1 cup onions, finely chopped
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp coriander powder
salt to taste
½ tsp amchur powder
Oil, for frying

Instructions:

Making Dough -

In a mixing bowl take wheat flour and salt. Mix it with your fingers.
Add water and gather to form a soft dough. Knead it well.
The dough should not be too tight or too loose. Allow it to rest covered for at least 30 mins.


Making Paratha –

Make medium sized balls from the dough. Roll it a little with the help of dry flour.
Add the chopped onions in the center.
Sprinkle coriander powder, amchoor powder, red chili powder and salt. Mix lightly.


Bring the edges together and seal it.


Then apply a little dry flour, roll it gently.
Heat a tawa. Put this stuff paratha on it.


Cook well with the help of desi ghee. Apply desi ghee on both sides and cook on slow to get golden crisp paratha.


Remove and serve this paratha with curd.


Tips:

  • As the onions release moisture due to the presence of salt, so it can be difficult to roll it. You can knead chopped onion with flour.
  • Chop onion finely otherwise you won't be able to roll the parathas.
  • Roll stuffed paratha immediately else it will be difficult to roll as onions will come out.
  • You can add chopped coriander and green chilli.
